Rocca di Frassinello

Inaugurated in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma on June 30, 2007, the Rocca di Frassinello winery is an adventure by Tuscan-born Paolo Panerai and the Domini Castellare di Castellina group, situated between Bolgheri and Scansano. On this very site in the comune of Gavorrano, the vine historically flourished for about 3 thousand years since the time of the Etruscans. In fact, the ruins of ancient Etruscan civilization can be explored on the protected sites within the estate's 500 hectares, of which 80 are planted to vine, more than 50% Sangioveto ( a clone of Sangiovese), joined by Vermentino as well as French varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot (which comprises the famous "Baffonero" bottling). To further validate the international ambitions of the estate, architect Renzo Piano is responsible for the elegant winery and cellar, an indelible brick-red landmark on the highest hill of the amphitheater of Rocca di Frassinello.
